NFL Computerized Predictor: Week 6

We're back for another week of picks and predictions. Another week beating the odds, and making Vegas look stupid... That's the idea, anyway. But in this year of upsets and completely screwed spreads, it doesn't always work out that way, but we keep plugging away anyway.

So far this year the underdogs have been kicking ass, that cannot hold up over a whole season though, so take it for what its worth. When we look at the league, dominant teams are not as dominant as they were and bad teams are not as bad as they were.  If you are betting the Lions are 1-4 and the Cowboys are 1-4 but the Lions are 4-1 ATS they are a lot better than they have been getting credit for, meanwhile the Cowboys just suck as they cant win at all.

That is a hint for this weeks games as Detroit is +10 against the Giants and in case you haven't noticed, the Giants are not ten points better than anyone.

Then how does one bad team get to be 7 points better than another bad team, the battle of the Bay is Sunday and the 49ers are 7 point favorites. How is that even possible?

Babes: Playmate Jaime Edmondson with Playboy’s NFL Playoff Picks

Despite her loyalty to the Miami Dolphins, whom she cheered for as a pro cheerleader for years, Jaime Edmondson (2010 January Playmate of the Month) took one for the team and made NFL gear of the 12 teams Playboy magazine picked to head to the playoffs look as sexy as ever. Though we may not agree with the picks, we cannot disagree with the presentation.

NFL Computerized Power Rankings: Week 6

Finally some stability in the power rankings as four of the top five hold on to their spots while the Colts move up three spots to join the top 5 after defeating the previously unbeaten Chiefs who fall down to the 11 spot. With Ben coming back to Pittsburgh this week, it may be very difficult to dislodge the Steelers from the number one spot.

We know there are good arguments to be made for the Jets and the Ravens to be number one, but when you dive into the numbers its the lack of scoring offense, turnovers, and thus the point differential that is holding back the Ravens and the easy (15th ranked) schedule holding back the Jets…more

NFL Computerized Predictor: Week 5

Well, last week certainly showed that parity is back in the NFL. With a slew of upsets and new teams leading all over the league like Kansas City and St. Louis the NFL is as unpredictable as ever. We warned you about the two trap games last week and if you listened to us you would have been ok at 9-5 ATS as we were right about both of them. We will give it our best shot as always though. This week undefeated KC goes to Indy and although the predictor says they will cover, remember that is another trap situation as they are undefeated and the predictor has no brains, its just a numbers cruncher so that game is one to be wary of. Indy is mad, and KC may not be as good as their record as the schedule gods have been very favorable to them.

Roy Halladay tosses no hitter

Roy Halladay spent his whole career waiting for this start, wondering what it would be like to pitch in the playoffs.

It was better than he—or anyone else—could have predicted.

Halladay threw the second no-hitter in postseason history, leading the Philadelphia Phillies over the Cincinnati Reds 4-0 in Game 1 of the NL division series on Wednesday.

“It’s surreal, it really is,” Halladay said. “I just wanted to pitch here, to pitch in the postseason. To go out and have a game like that, it’s a dream come true.”

Don Larsen is the only other pitcher to throw a postseason no-hitter. He tossed a perfect game for the New York Yankees in the 1956 World Series against Brooklyn. The 54th anniversary of Larsen’s gem is this Friday.

Halladay took the Year of the Pitcher into October. The excitement spread beyond Citizens Bank Park—the last two outs were shown on the video board at Target Field, where the Twins were preparing to play the Yankees, and Minnesota fans cheered.

The All-Star right-hander, who threw a perfect game at Florida on May 29, dominated the Reds with a sharp fastball and a devastating slow curve in his first playoff start.

Week 5 NFL Power Rankings

Here they are the computer has crunched the numbers and come up confused as the rest of us this topsy turvy season. The Chiefs are the last undefeated team standing at least for the next few days, but that wont propel them to the top, they haven't played enough good teams yet to know where they are, give it two weeks then see where they end up. Parity is here this year in a huge way as the Steelers are the number one team and they still have questions, it seems as if every team has questions be it the Chiefs inexperience, the Jets and Falcons young quarterbacks, The Ravens are not far from 2-2 and Cleveland beat them badly. What team is going to step up and take control?

NFL Computerized Game Predictor: Week 4

We enter week 4 with just three undefeated teams, two of those could have their first loss this weekend leaving only the Chiefs standing. Are we in some kind of an alternate universe here. The Bears should have their hands full on the road against a Giants team that is capable of ending their run and the Steelers get the Ravens tough defense to contend with, and remember they are still starting a fourth string quarterback. No matter the record, there is a reason why Batch is where he is on the depth chart. The predictor says they will both win and cover, but these are the predictor traps early in the season with an undefeated record, the predictor may be putting too much credence in Batch and company so I would be very careful with those games.  The matchups this weekend just get better with Vick facing off against McNabb in Donovan’s Philly homecoming. We end the week with a fantastic Monday night game where the Phins are favored by a point against the Patriots. In a big game, we cant bet against Brady and the predictor agrees although just barely. Week four is our first full week of play as the numbers are coming together starting about now as the predictor takes a few weeks to get all the statistical data in place and the teams start to play with some sort of consistency. Remember we do this for fun, so take it for what it is worth, especially early in the season. Remember we live in Nevada so it is legal for us to bet. If you live elsewhere this is just for giggles.
